Methodology & Conclusion

Methodology

Comparative Examination

The authentication process involved a detailed side-by-side forensic comparison of the submitted jersey against high-resolution reference photographs from the 2001–02 season. The examination focused on identifying unique, non-manufacturing characteristics that developed through game use and remained consistent across both the physical jersey and the photographic evidence. Particular attention was given to the V-neck collar construction, seam alignment, collar binding geometry, and the overall structural profile of the neckline. A distinctive raised deformation located on the right side of the V-neck apex, immediately adjacent to the center seam intersection, was examined in detail. This irregular hump-shaped distortion within the black collar binding was analyzed for its shape, position, and relationship to the surrounding stitching and fabric contours. Additional comparison included the examination of stitching patterns, material deformation, fabric tension, wear characteristics, and the spatial relationship of the collar to adjacent design elements. The consistency of these individual characteristics across the examined images supports the conclusion that the photographed jersey and the submitted jersey are the same garment.
Conclusion

Possible Photomatch

The forensic examination identified a distinctive raised deformation at the right side of the V-neck collar apex that is consistent in shape, position, and overall appearance between the submitted jersey and the available reference photograph. This unique characteristic, together with the corresponding collar construction and surrounding structural features, provides meaningful support for a photographic association. However, the available reference image is of limited resolution and overall quality, preventing the observation and verification of additional fine-scale identifying characteristics that would be required for a higher level of certainty. Based on the available photographic evidence, the jersey is assessed as a Possible Match with an estimated confidence level of approximately 75%. While the observed characteristics are consistent with the same jersey, the image quality does not permit a definitive forensic identification. Additional high-resolution photographs from the same game or season could potentially strengthen the level of confidence.
