Welcome to
PhotoMatchForensics.
A private research and documentation project dedicated to game-worn sports memorabilia, historical context and the visual comparison of physical jerseys with photographic evidence.
Documenting the evidence behind the jersey.
PhotoMatchForensics was created as a private archive for documenting pieces from a sports memorabilia collection. The objective is not simply to display a jersey, but to preserve the information and photographic evidence connected to it.
Individual records can combine object details, historical research, provenance and authentication information with visual photomatch evidence. Identifiable characteristics can then be documented as individual match points and compared across reference photography and photographs of the physical item.
Featured Jerseys
From physical object to documented evidence.
Document
Photograph and record the jersey, tags, construction details and identifiable characteristics.
Identify
Locate potentially unique visual characteristics such as loose threads, stitching patterns, wear or positioning.
Compare
Compare the physical item with suitable in-game or archival reference photography.
Evaluate
Assess corresponding characteristics and document each relevant visual match point.
Preserve
Store the evidence, sources, historical context and comparison record in the archive.
What can create a photomatch?
Photomatching relies on corresponding visual characteristics visible on both the physical item and period photography. The relevance of each characteristic depends on the available evidence and the context of the comparison.
Independent collection documentation.
PhotoMatchForensics is a private collection and research archive. It is not an official team, league or manufacturer website and is not presented as an independent professional authentication authority. The records published here document the research associated with items in the collection.
